Why dance films?

Some stories deserve more than a stage.

A performance lasts a few minutes. A dance film gives that choreography a new life through story, locations, cinematography, and filmmaking. Rather than recording a routine, we reimagine it as a short film while preserving the heart of the original performance.

The collection

Between 2010 and 2018, Vibrant Dance Studios became home to the Dance Video Collection, an ambitious series of 33 original dance films that blended choreography with cinematic storytelling. Every project was written, planned, filmed, and edited using the same filmmaking process behind narrative films, adapted specifically for the dance community.

Over eight years, the collection brought together dancers, parents, and volunteers to create films that expanded performances beyond the stage, culminating in four premiere screenings that celebrated the creativity and collaboration behind every production.

The Dance Video Collection became the foundation for the filmmaking approach that Marketing Movez continues to build on today, creating premium dance films for studios looking to tell stories in a truly distinctive way.

featured films

Black King

Inspired by a true story.

Based on the real experiences of dancer Anwar Ali, Black King transforms eight pages of childhood memories into a cinematic dance film. Drawing from stories written by Anwar's mother, the film explores the racism and bullying he experienced throughout elementary school.

Rather than recreating those moments on stage, the story was reimagined through spoken word, original music, freestyling, and cinematic storytelling to create a powerful reflection on identity, resilience, and belonging.

The Making of Chi

The story behind the story.

Rather than adapting Chi into another narrative film, we chose to document the experience of bringing it to life. Through interviews with 32 dancers, behind-the-scenes moments, visual effects, and excerpts from the production, The Making of Chi captured the creativity, collaboration, and imagination that shaped one of our most ambitious stage productions.

By focusing on the people behind the performance, the film preserved not only the show itself but the memories, friendships, and creative journey that made it meaningful.

Forrest Gump Jr.

Every story has another chapter.

Inspired by the closing moments of the original Forrest Gump film, Forrest Gump Jr. imagines what happens after Forrest's son walks through the school doors for the very first time. Reimagined through dance, storytelling, and cinematic filmmaking, the project transformed a competition routine into a short film that expanded the original concept while giving it a new generation of heart and imagination.

Filmed on location with scripted scenes, cinematic camera work, and professional post production, the project demonstrated how choreography and film can work together to create an experience that extends beyond the stage.

Where is he now?

The film starred Jacksun Fryer, who has since gone on to appear on America's Got Talent, Canada's Got Talent, and World of Dance. Today, he continues to perform and create content for an audience of more than two million followers on TikTok.

A note about the collection

Many of the original Dance Video Collection films featured licensed music that was later removed from online platforms. While not every project remains publicly available, the collection continues to shape the cinematic storytelling approach we bring to dance films today.

More than a dance video

These films were never created by one person alone. Every project became a collaboration between dancers, families, and our creative team.

Parents helped secure filming locations, gathered props, and supported each production behind the scenes. Dancers rehearsed scenes beyond the studio, learned how to work on a film set, and brought their performances to life in forests, barns, homes, and other real-world locations.

Together, we created more than a dance video. We created an experience that families, dancers, and studios could share for years to come.

A night to remember

Every dance film premiered at a special screening before being released online. Families, dancers, and friends came together to experience the finished film for the very first time, celebrating months of collaboration, creativity, and hard work.

The final Dance Video Collection premiere welcomed more than 300 guests, ending with a standing ovation that recognized not only the finished film, but everyone who helped bring it to life.

For many dancers, the premiere became just as memorable as performing on stage.

Could your studio be next?

Every studio has stories worth telling. Some deserve to be remembered long after the final performance.

Dance films combine choreography, storytelling, and professional filmmaking to create an experience that brings dancers, families, and studios together. The result is a film your community can celebrate together and remember for years to come.
